Recently two trustees of Dundee City Pipe Band completed a 6 day Social Enterprise Training Course. The ‘Develop Your Social Enterprise’ course was delivered by Edinburgh based Social Enterprise Academy in association with ‘Dundee Futures Fund’ at the University of Abertay Dundee.
The Course was designed for new social enterprises in the early stages of start-up and as Dundee City Pipe Band received a Feasibility Grant from the Dundee Futures Fund in 2017, we were invited to attend. The course offered participants an opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills of running a Social Enterprise ( in our case the bands legal structure is that of a SCIO – Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation), in order to grow and develop their organisations. The course was delivered by Sheila Durie, a highly knowledgeable tutor with many years experience of working in the third sector, and all participants benefitted from her words of wisdom.
During the final day of the course, participants had to present a short business pitch of their organisations in a ‘dragons den format’ to an invited panel. Despite nerves, our Trustees gave a good account of the band and the positive feedback from the panel and other participants was really encouraging.
Many thanks to Dundee Futures for offering this training opportunity.
